Hotel Design Find: Limewood Hotel & Spa
Limewood is a gorgeous boutique country hotel & spa in the heart of the New Forest, South England – the perfect place to visit for a long weekend or if you need to relax and detox a little bit …
Lime Wood’s classical structure was used for the basis of the design, but the building was lovingly renovated with a fresh approach which resulted in the revival of it’s architecture and grounds. Inspiration has been taking from the spirit of it’s past, the extraordinarily beautiful surroundings and a little contemporary twist has been added to bring the place to life.
The external architecture is a triump in itself. The stunning Regency country house was originally established as a hunting lodge in the 13th Century. Ben Pentreath of Working Group Design restored the main house and its extensions, comprising of 16 bedrooms, a series of clasically designed sitting rooms, library, dining room, informal eatery, bar, cellar and billiar room. Meanwhile Charles Morris, whose previous work includes the Orchard Room at Highgrove, designed the additional buildings which include a further 11 suites and two guest rooms.
The luxury hotel interiors have been created by David Collins. The interior has been put together to interpret a modern but classic English Country House look.
Mr Collin’s style is both luxurious and relaxed – it provides an elusive and enticingly balanced design. He made the most of local materials like ash and stone mixing them with a simple and subtle palette to ensure that the interiors mix in with their surroundings.
The furniture is an eclectic mix of antique and bespoke pieces, while the artwrok and objets d’art have been hand-picked to ensure that Lime Wood’s original charm has not been lost.
And because this is an old English country house, there’s the odd eccentric touch so that there’s always something to be amused by.
