Feeling Blue?

Sitting at my desk and feeling a little blue. The weekend is almost over and Monday is just around the corner! I started to think about that phrase ‘feeling blue’ and wondered why people associate blue with such negative thoughts? I mean blue is used a lot within interior design and contrary to popular belief, it is not necessarily a cold nor a depressing colour.

Blue can represent trust, commitment and dependability. It helps people to feel calm and relaxed. Blue is all around us; the sky, seas, lakes, flowers and birds. It is calm, restful, relaxing and as a result is perfectly suitable for use when designing a room:

A simple and relaxing bedroom:

A fresh and contemporary navy blue dining room:

Fresh and soothing lounge:

Blue can add a touch of sophistication to a space:

and calm …

Although thought of as negative, blue generally tends to symbolise harmony, peace and healing – but be careful when using it for design purposes. If you’re going to use blue try to accent it with lighter colours such as white, grey or even beige. Too much blue in a room can make it dark and gloomy!

Until next time …
